Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The St. Catherine University softball team hoped it could open the 2014 season in winning fashion under new Head Coach Colleen Powers. Unfortuanately, the Wildcats couldn't slow down the high-powered offense of nationally-ranked Luther College in an 11-3 loss in six innings, before falling to 6-3 to UW-Steven's Point at the Rochester Dome Classic hosted by Luther Saturday in Rochester, Minn.

In the opening game of the day, No. 7 Luther scored 11 runs in the opening six innings to put a win out of reach for the Wildcats, despite an attempt at a comeback in the bottom of the inning. Three-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) All-Conference selection Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) got the Wildcat offense going in the sixth when she collected an RBI to send Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) across the plate for the first Wildcat run of the game.

Luedtke then stole home for the the second Wildcat run before Rosie Uribe (Palmdale, Calif.) came in to pinch hit for the Wildcats. The sophomore collected a hit and an RBI to send Erin Fitzpatrick (White Bear Lake, Minn.) home for the third run of the game for the Wildcats. Baker and Jessica Tyminski (Champlin, Minn.) also picked up hits in the opening game.

Despite outhitting UW-Stevens Point in the second game of the day, the Wildcats couldn't manage to score when in counted in falling 6-3. The Pointers opened the game scoring three runs in two innings and holding the Wildcats scoreless until the tird period when Larrissa Karl (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) and Callie Boelter (Hendrson, Minn.) each picked up hits to get palyers on base for the Wildcats. Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) then picked up her first hit of the game and two RBI in the game to send Ftizpatrick and Boelter home for the first runs of the game for the Wildcats to make it 3-2 at the bottom of the third.

Unfortunately, that was the final run for the Wildcats in suffering their second loss of the season.

Alyssa Luedtke finished the day 3-for-6 at the playe with three hits, two RBI, one run and a walk, while Kaitlyn Luedtke went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run and a walk. Fiitzpatrick led the Wildcats with two runs on the day.
