It had been 25 days since the St. Catherine University softball team began its doubleheader against Macalester College.

After game one was suspended on April 5 due to the beginning of what turned out to be a long streak of extended winter weather, the two teams were finally able to complete game one Tuesday. Macalester earned an 11-7 victory, but the Wildcats rebounded with a 6-0 shutout win in game two to earn the split at Macalester Field in St. Paul.

For the third-straight game, first-year pitcher and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Pitcher-of-the-Week Lindsey Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) earned a shut out on the mound for the Wildcats. In the second game of the day, Klein allowed the Scots just four hits and struck out six batters en route to her seventh win of the season.

At the plate, Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) finished the series 5-for-7 with three RBI and two runs scored. The junior is now batting .367 on the season and .383 in MIAC games to lead the Wildcats at the plate.

Game two opened with a lead-off single from Luedtke in the top of the first. She would then score off an Alyssa McKee (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) RBI single to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead early.

In the top of the second, the Wildcats would add another run to increase their lead to 2-0 when Luedtke would bring pinch runner Erin Fitzpatrick (White Bear Lake, Minn.) across the plate.

After four scoreless innings, the Wildcats sealed the win with a four-run outing in the top of the seventh. Larrissa Karl (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) picked up an RBI to bring Jenna Brady (Greenfield, Minn.) across for run three in favor of the Wildcats.

Callie Boelter (LeSueur, Minn.) brought in another run off a single to left field before two more Wildcat runs would score to help the squad improve to 7-11 in MIAC play.

Boelter finished game two 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Raven Baker (Minneapolis, Minn.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Game one reopened in the bottom of the fifth inning by a score of 9-4 in favor of Macalester. The Wildcats were able to add three runs, bu couldn't find a way to complete the late game upset after going down early to the Scots.

Cassie Rooney (Plymouth, Minn.) hit her first home run of the season when the game was first played on April 5, while Shae Elliott (Richfield, Minn.) and Brady each ended game one 2-for-3 with an RBI.

First-year Rosie Uribe (Palmdale, Calif.) also picked up a pair of hits and runs – one in each game – to add to the Wildcat offensive strike.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play their final regular season doubleheader Wednesday against St. Olaf College at home beginning at 3:30 p.m.
