Wildcats drop first games of season to UW-Steven's Point, Elmhurst

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
After an impressive first day of play at the National Training Center Spring Games, the St. Catherine University softball team hoped it could pick up two more wins to keep its undefeated streak alive.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, day two didn't go the way they had hoped as they dropped a 5-2 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point before falling to Elmhust College 9-4 Saturday in Clermont, Fla.

Against the Pointers, the Wildcats gave up two runs in the first but were able to tie it up at 2-2 in the second. That's as close as the Wildcats would get, though, as they gave up three runs in the third and allowed the Pointers to hold on for a 5-2 win.

The Wildcats had an even tougher time against the Blue Jays as they gave up an early 3-1 lead before eventually allowing 18 hits to their opponents and suffered just their second loss this season.

Kaitlyn Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) had the most productive day for the Wildcats as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI, three walks and one run scored.

After going just 1-for-4 in the first matchup of the day, Alyssa Luedtke (Spring Lake Park, Minn.) was 2-for-4 in game two, scored two runs and had two stolen bases. The two-time Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) All-Conference pick also had an RBI against Steven's Point.

Jenna Brady (Greenfield, Minn.) was 2-for-4 against Elmhurst with an RBI and one run, while Regan Kreichbaum added an RBI to the Wildcat offensive attack.

Senior Shae Elliott (Richfield, Minn.) had the only multiple-base hit of the day as she cranked a double in the first game versus Steven's Point before adding another hit in the second game against Elmhurst.

With the two losses, the Wildcats fall to 5-2 on the season and are now 2-2 to start their annual spring break trip. The Wildcats return to action Sunday against Oberlin College at 9 a.m. before taking on the University of Southern Maine at 11 a.m.
