Soccer suffers first loss of season

The Wildcats soccer team lost for the first time this season. They fell 3-1 to the Knights from Wartburg College.

As they did last year, the two teams played a very competitive game. While very little separated the teams on the field, Wartburg took advantage of their scoring opportunities to get the victory.

The Wildcats fell behind early when the Knights struck at the 14:42 mark. It remained 1-0 until Wartburg scored a momentum swinging goal with only ten seconds left in the first half. That put the Wildcats in a 2-0 hole that they were never able to recover from.

The teams exchanged goals in the second half. Jenna Bowman scored the Wildcats only goal of the game. It was her first of the year with, and the assist went to Sam Levercom.

St. Kate's goalkeeper Kaylee Schmit stopped seven Wartburg shots, while the Wildcats put one of their four shots-on-goal into the back of the net.

Both teams now find themselves with 2-1-1 records on the season. St. Kate's returns to action on Thursday September 11 when they face St. Mary's University. It will be the first MIAC contest of the 2008 season for both clubs.
