ST. PAUL, MINN. – It could have been a very cold, wet and miserable day for the St. Catherine University track and field team. The Wildcats competed at the Hamline Women's Twilight at Hamline University Wednesday evening in less than ideal conditions. However, despite the rain, St. Kate's had several student-athletes tally season and career best performances at the meet.
Throwers
Kaylea Hoenigschmidt (Ramsey, Minn. / Anoka),
Megan Pohlmann (Grey Eagle, Minn. / Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) and
Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall) once again excelled in their respective events, providing the top two Wildcat finishes of the night. Hoenigschmidt once again showed her consistency in the hammer throw by eclipsing 40 meters for the third consecutive week. The sophomore finished eighth in the event with her throw of 41.53 meters. Pohlmann was not far behind, as she finished tenth with a throw of 39.74 meters.
Thompson also had a successful evening in discuss, setting a new personal record (PR) with her sixth place finish in the event. Thompson threw the disc 38.72 meters, which puts her sixth all time in St. Kate's history.
Shannon Strickland's (Rochester, Minn. / Lourdes) impressive season continued as she set yet another PR in a mid-distance race. Strickland finished 14
th in the 1500 meter run with a career-best time of 4:57.26 and was the seventh fastest finisher among Division III runners. She also recorded the seventh fastest time in program history.
Leighlin Ahlstrom (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) cracked into the top-10 in the 5000 meter run, as she finished 13
th in the race with a time of 18:41.78, the fourth fastest time in program history.
Jackie Brine-Doyle (Merrifield, Minn. / Pequot Lakes) recorded a PR in the event as well with her time of 19:37.45.
Courtney Kirkeide (Greenbush, Minn. / Greenbush-Middle River),
Michelle Perri (Plymouth, Minn. / Osseo) and
Ahna Neil (Mendota Heights, Minn.) all recorded new PRs in the 800 meter run. Kirkeide was the highest finisher in the race with a time 2:32.91, while Neil dropped nearly three seconds with her new PR time of 2:56.26. Perri also set a new personal best with her time of 2:36.15
Sam Witmer (Troutdale, Ore. / Reynolds) also set a new PR in the 3000 steeple chase with a time of 13:27.01.
St. Kate's will return to action at 10 a.m. this Saturday, when it competes at the Lee Krough Invite at Gustavus Adolphus College.
