COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. – It was a career day for many of the athletes competing for the St. Catherine University track and field team at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Wildcats had four student-athletes set personal records (PR), while five earned either All-MIAC or All-MIAC Honorable Mention Honors to help St. Kate's finish tenth overall with 42 points on the final day of the meet.

St. Kate's found most of its success where it has all season: on the javelin runway. Megan Pohlmann (Grey Eagle, Minn. / Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) and Alyssa Besch (Apple Valley, Minn. / Eastview) both broke the school record to sit in first and second place after the preliminary rounds. Their teammate Dani Breault (Anoka, Minn. / Anoka) was not far behind in third place, putting the Wildcats in a position to sweep the top three spots for the first time in program history. Sadly it was not to be. However, St. Kate's still recorded three top-five finishes in the event. Pohlmann took second in the event and set the school record with a throw of 42.52 meters to earn All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. Besch finished third in her final MIAC Championship with a throw of 41.73 meters and Breault took fifth with a throw of 38.46 meters. All three of those throws are PRs, and both Pohlmann and Besch's throws are national qualifying distances.

Katelyn Byers-Carter (Bloomington, Minn. / Jefferson) had a huge day for St. Kate's in the shot put. The junior thrower set a PR in the event with a final throw of 11.37 meters to just miss making the cut for the finals. Byers-Carter's throw is now No. 10 all-time in school history and was a PR by over one meter.

Rachel Hall (Mendota Heights, Minn.) was the most successful Wildcats on the track. The junior distance runner finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.87. That time in the second fastest in St. Kate's history and a PR for Hall.

Shakeela Wells-Johnson (St. Paul, Minn. / Harding) earned All-MIAC honors for the third time in her career after taking third in 100 meter dash with a time of 12.49. She also earned Honorable Mention honors in the 100 meter hurdles with a sixth place finish.

With the strong performances from multiple athletes, the Wildcats ended the day in tenth place with 42 points. The team was just seven points behind ninth place finisher Macalester College, who finished the meet with 49 points.

The University of St. Thomas won the meet overall with 191.3 total points, while Carleton College ended in second place with 100 points. More information about the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships can be found on the MIAC's Outdoor Track and Field Championship page.

St. Kate's will compete in the Last Change Meet at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the hopes of qualifying some athletes for the NCAA Tournament.
