MIAC ReleaseST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University softball team put together their best offensive performances of the year last week against two formidable Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes. The Wildcats recorded a combined 49 hits in two doubleheaders against St. Olaf College and Bethel University during the week. Roughly twenty percent of those hits came off
Robyn Rohr's (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville North) bat, as she put together her best week at the plate of the season. For her performances, the senior shortstop was named MIAC Softball Player-of-the-Week by the conference sports information directors on Monday.
Rohr was instrumental in helping St. Kate's finish with a 3-1 record against MIAC opponents last week. Rohr went 10-19 at the plate against St. Olaf and Bethel with a batting average of .526. She led the team with six runs and nine runs batted in (RBI) and put together three multi-hit performances against the Oles and Royals. Six of those nine RBI and two of those six runs came in the top of the seventh inning against the defending MIAC champion Bethel. Rohr not only hit an RBI double to jump start the Wildcats offense, but also hit her second grand slam of the season with bases loaded and nobody out to put the exclamation point on St. Kate's huge offensive inning. The grand slam was the second for the Wildcats in the inning and helped cement their 12-6 come from behind win in game one against the Royals. Â
Statistically, Rohr has had one of the hottest bats in the MIAC throughout the entire season. Her current 19-game hit streak is not only the longest in St. Kate's program history but the longest active streak in the conference as well, and her 33 hits top both St. Kate's and the MIAC stat lists. With her performances last week, Rohr now ranks first in the conference in total bases (48), fourth in batting average (.465), second in RBIs (26), and seventh in runs (20).
With the split against St. Olaf and the sweep of Bethel behind them, Rohr and No. 17 St. Kate's look ahead to one of their busiest weeks of the season. The Wildcats will play four games in seven days, and three of them will be on their home field. St. Kate's will face the No. 20 University of St. Thomas on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Kate's field, then will host Carleton College on Thursday and Augsburg College on Saturday. They will round out the week with a game at Hamline University on Sunday.Â
