ResultsST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University distance runners have been extremely successful in the 2016 Indoor Track and Field season. That success continued Friday night in the unscored University of St. Thomas Invitational, as several Wildcat distance runners recorded personal best and historic times during the twilight meet.
Rachel Hall (Mendota Heights, Minn.) picked up right where she left off in last week's invite at Bethel University. The junior recorded yet another historic and personal best time in the St. Thomas Showcase. This time, though, it was in the 1000 meter. Hall recorded the third best time in St. Kate's history by running the 1000 in 3:07.32, which was also good for seventh place in the race overall.
Fellow junior
Courtney Kirkeide (Greenbush, Minn. / Greenbush-Middle River) also had success in her distance races. Kirkeide finished thirteenth in the 3000 meter race, which was the highest finish of Wildcats participating. However, her time of 10:55.07 is the fifth best 3000 time in St. Kate's history and is the second top-10 time Kirkeide has recorded this indoor season.
Jackie Brine-Doyle (Merrifield, Minn. / Pequot Lakes) debuted in the 5000 meter race and placed forteenth with a personal best time of 19:46.67. The time was also the ninth best in school history by over two minutes.
Marie Morrier (Hudson, N.H. / Academy for Science and Design) continued to have success in the distance races as well. She recorded a personal best time of 1:45.76 in the 600 meter race and finished in fifth place.
In the field events, first year
Kaylea Hoenigschmidt recorded a personal best score of 112.10 in the weight throw, which was significantly better than her score coming into the event. Her teammate Kaitlyn Bryers-Carter made her debut in the shot put.
The Wildcat track and field athletes will now enjoy a full week off before their next meet. St. Kate's will race in the Minnesota Parents Day race at the University of Minnesota Field House.
