Day One ResultsThe St. Catherine University golf team has been off to a hot start and have played strong in the first two weeks along side the best teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and the Midwest. For the third week in a row, the Wildcats found themselves in the top four in the team standings after the first day of play – this time solidly in fourth with a score of 325 (+37) at the Division III Classic hosted by Carleton College Saturday in Lake City, Minnesota.
All season long, first-year
Sydney Busker (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes) has looked like a vetran coming into the weekend's competition with the second-lowest average on the team. Saturday, Busker was even better shooting a career-best 75 (+3) to finish the day tied for second with reigning MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week Rachel Morris from the University of St. Thomas. Not only did Busker card a personal-best, her score is the second-lowest by a Wildcat this season and in program history.
The Wildcats had other solid performances with
Kaitlyn Alvarez (Eau Claire, Wis./North) carding an 81 (+9) for her second-lowest score of the season tying for 13th in the individual standings after one round of play.
Madi Roe (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) was just three strokes behind in 22nd place shooting a round of 84 (+12), while Talyor Krouse (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) was just one stroke behind in 23rd with an 85 (+13).
Abby Conzemius (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) was the fifth Wildcat finisher on the day just one stroke off of Krouse with a score of 86 (+14) in 28th place.
The Wildcats are just eight strokes behind Wartburg College in third place heading into the final day of play Sunday. Carleton and St. Thomas tied for first in the openign round with scores of 314 (+26). The Wildcats are slated to complete play at the Division III Classic Sunday morning in Lake City.
