The St. Catherine University cross country team has had a solid start to the 2015 season in its first two races. With less than a month to go until the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships, the Wildcats' schedule ramped up this week with a different test in hosting their annual St. Kate's Invite 4,000-meter race Saturday in St. Paul.
The Wildcats had a solid fifth-place team showing with nine runners recording collegiate personal record (PR) times for the 4,000-meter distance.
For the second race in a row,
Courtney Kirkeide (Greenbush, Minn./Greenbush-Middle River) has been the top Wildcat finisher. This week, she placed 11th overall for the Wildcats with PR time of 15:52.17. Sophomore
Marie Morrier (Hudson, N.H./Academy for Science and Design) had another solid finish clocking in with a PR time of 16:14.5 in 28th place, while Shannon Strickland (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) wasn't far behind in 35th place with a time of 16:26.73.

Bryana Waage (Valencia, Calif./Hart) clocked a PR as the fourth Wildcat finisher on the day with a time of 16:34.32 to finish in the top 40. First-year
Catherine Degen (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) was the final point-scorer crossing the line just behind Waage with a PR time of 16:40.74 in 44th overall. Ellie Cardinal (Burnsville, Minn./Eastview) was the sixth Wildcat finisher on the day with a PR time of 16:45.87 in 51st place. Rookie
Jackie Brine-Doyle (Merrifield, Minn./Pequot Lakes) crossed the line just behind Cardinal with a PR of 16:50.96 to finish 56th.
Other PRs on the day included
Michelle Perri (Plymouth, Minn./Osseo) who crossed the line in 17:14.57,
Jenna Thompson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) who finished in 17:38.77 and
Sam Witmer (Troutdale, Ore./Reynolds) who clocked in at 19:14.06.
Macalester College won the women's race with a team score of 36 points. Kimber Meyer of Macalester also won the individual title with a time of 14:39.01 that was nearly 25 seconds faster than the enxt finisher. The University of St. Thomas captured the men's team title with a score of 16 points. Jacob Gerhartz of the Tommies won the men's race with a time of 12:20.74.
The Wildcats return to action next week traveling to the east coast for the Seven Sisters Championships. This year, the annual race will be hosted by Bryn Mawr College on the campus of Haverford College at 11 a.m. in Haverford, Pennsylvania).
