After an impressive opening day at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Championships with a school record performance, the St. Catherine University track and field team closed out the 2014 season with several more honorable mention performances on the final day of competition at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

The highlights of the Wildcats' final meet of the year came in three sprint events with Shakeela Wells-Johnson (St. Paul, Minn.) and Brittany Moore (Maplewood, Minn.) picking up honorable mention honors in two events each. The sprint duo along with Madelin Skaalrud (Hammond, Wis.) and Ashleigh Ackley (Gilby, N.D.) helped the Wildcats to an eighth-consecutive top-six finish in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 50.07. Their finish is not only better than the Wildcats' time from a year ago, but it ranks No. 5 all-time at St. Kate's.

Individually, Wells-Johnson and Moore also placed sixth in each the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Wells-Johnson concluded her stellar rookie campaign for the Wildcats with a time of 12.52 that matched her season-best and personal record (PR) time in the dash event. Moore was just off her PR in the hurdles with a time of 15.66 to earn her second All-MIAC Honroable Mention honor in a hurdle event in 2014.

The Wildcats also had two impressive finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to wrap up the team's solid day on the track. Junior Jenna McElroy (Champlin, Minn.) shaved six seconds off her season-best time for a new PR of 11:39.24 to finish eighth in a fast field of runners. After earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention honors Friday in the 10,000-meter run, Kristina Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) concluded her storied collegiate career at St. Kate's just one place behind McElroy and outside scoring postion with a 10-second PR of 11:56.22. The two Wildcats remain No. 2 and 3, respectively, on the St. Kate's top-10 list in the steeplechase.

In the field events, Meghan Pohlmann (Grey Eagle, Minn.) was just off her PR with a mark of 33.37 meters to qualify for the finals in the javelin. Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals with a throw of 33.33 meters in 11th.

The Wildcats concluded the meet with an 11th-place team finish with 17. 3 points. Additional meet information can be found on the MIAC Championships Site.
