Heading into the weekend it was unclear whether or not the Carleton College Invitational was going to happen because of a late-season snow storm earlier in the week. Fortunately, the weather cooperated and the St. Catherine University track and field team was able to compete with top performances coming in the field events Saturday in Northfield, Minn.

Though the Wildcats received many top performances on the day, Abigail Palmer (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) stood out in multiple events with St. Kate's top-10 marks in both the triple jump and the javelin. Palmer set a new personal record (PR) jump of 10.48 meters to make a huge jump and take over the No. 4 spot. Her mark also earned her second-place in the event at the meet â€“ one of the top individual finishes from a Wildcat at the meet. The first-year also bettered her mark from last week in the javelin with a sixth-place finish of 30.92 meters. Palmer's mark now moves her up one spot in the top-10 to the No. 8 position.

Last week, Jorden Priebe (Indianola, Iowa) posted the top mark for hammer throw in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) at the Tiger Relays. The senior continued her strong performances as her throw of 42.61 meters was just off her PR from a week ago and was good enough for a second-place finish at the meet. Christina Ramsdell (St. Cloud, Minn.) was just off her PR with an impressive throw of 41.08 meters to finish third behind Priebe.

Other noteworthy performances in the field events came from Sarah Manning (Page, Ariz.) in the high jump and Courtney Kirkeide (Greenbush, Minn.) in the javelin. Manning used a jump of 1.53 meters to place third, while Kirkeide had an eight-meter PR from her throw a week ago with a mark of 22.41 meters. Ashton Clevenger (Fredericktown, Ohio) also placed in the top-10 at the meet in the hammer throw, while Dani Breault (Anoka, Minn.) had a PR in the shot put.

On the track, Jenna McElroy (Champlin, Minn.) led the way for the Wildcats with a huge performance in the 5,000-meter run. The junior dropped over a minute and 30 seconds from her previous outdoor PR in the event to place fifth in the event with a time of 18:57.69. Her time moves her to No. 7 all-time in the event and places her near the top of the MIAC performance lists so far this season. Kristina Poss (Shoreview, Minn.) was just behind McElroy in sixth with a time of 19:04.73 which was just off her PR.

Shannon Strickland (Rochester, Minn.) dropped 10 seconds from her time a week ago in the 1,500-meter to finish in the top-20 with a time of 5:11.02. Strickland also ran a strong anchor leg in the Wildcats sixth-place 4 x 400 relay.  Kirkeide placed ninth in the 800-meter run outdoors with a PR time of 2:31.04, while Jenna Thompson (Maple Grove, Minn.) also had a strong debut in the event at 2:38.448 to place 13th.

Shakeela Wells-Johnson (St. Paul, Minn.) led the sprints with a strong time of 62.87 in the 400-meter dash to place fourth.

The Wildcats return to action next Saturday at the Concordia University, St. Paul Holst Invitational scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in St. Paul.
