Coming off a big overtime win against Macalester College on Monday evening, the St. Catherine University basketball team hoped it continue on a winning streak, but knew coming up with another Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win against a quick St. Olaf College squad wouldn't be easy.
The Oles were able to build an early lead in the first half to put any chance of victory out of reach for the Wildcats as they fell 78-56, Wednesday evening at the
Butler Center.
In the game's opening seven minutes, the Oles managed to build a 10 point lead and never looked back en route to victory. Despite limiting the amount of team turnovers, the Wildcats couldn't slow down the Oles who shot 53 percent from the field and scored 49 points off the bench.
The Wildcats got a strong performance from
Cynthia Cowan (Elgin, Texas) had her second-straight double-digit performance for the Wildcats with a team-high 12 points. The first-year also had the team's best shooting night as she finished at 57 percent from the field.
Sarina Baker (Plymouth, Minn.) recorded her fifth-straight double-digit performance with 10 points and also led the Wildcats in rebounds with seven.
In just her eighth game as a Wildcat, first-year
Shauna Horsch (Inver grove Heights, Minn.) had a career night with an impressive 10-point performance. She was also 2-for-5 from beyond the arc and led the Wildcats with four steals.
Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) also put up 10 points for her sixth double-digit performance in the last seven games.
The Oles were led by their leading scorer, Nikki Frogner, who came off the bench for 22 points.
The Wildcats will return to action against a Saint Mary's University squad that is 11-3 in MIAC play this season on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the
Butler Center.
