Coming off a game in which they scored six goals, the Wildcats were confident in their ability to come home from UW Superior with a win. They did so convincingly, ending the evening with a 7-0 win. First-year
Kelsey Moll had a hat trick to help lead the Wildcats to a 4-2-1 record. UW Superior fell to 2-6 with the loss.
The Wildcats leapt out to an early lead, with
Kolletta Dorsher feeding Moll for an 1-0 lead after only three minutes. Bringing the ball immediately back down the field, the Wildcats earned a corner kick less than a minute after resuming play.
Kelsey Nistler took the kick and
Christina Paik knocked it in for her first goal of the season.
Katie Eckman made it 3-0 later in the half on another assist from Nistler.
In the second half, the Wildcats remained quiet on the scoring front at first, until
Kristi Thorwick scored her first collegiate goal to start the Wildcats on a tear of four goals in just over 11 minutes. Moll found the net twice more and Dorsher added a goal.
While the offensive attack was impressive, the defense had an outstanding day as well, posting their first shutout of the season.
Chelsea Jones-Thomas and
Kayla Clafton each played a half in goal to combine for the shutout. All told, the Wildcats held a 38-5 advantage in shots.
With the confidence of knowing their offensive attack is firing on all cylinders, the Wildcats head into conference play against St. Mary's on Saturday September 22 at 1 pm.
