The St. Kate’s basketball team defeated Bethel University 69-49 Monday night at Butler Center, improving their MIAC record to 7-9.
After the first six minutes of play, the Wildcats were down 9-10 until Jenna Olson put in two free throws to take the 11-10 lead. St. Kate’s would lead the rest of the game. Olson also nailed a three-pointer with 7:55 left in the first half to put the Wildcats up by 9, and Laura Kalbfell made a layup with 1:13 left to give St. Kate’s a 35-25 advantage at halftime.
St. Kate’s extended their lead in the second half, thanks to clutch field goals from Kalbfell and Megan Zillmer, and 7 rebounds from Molly Peterson. The Wildcats’ defense stayed solid in the second half, forcing a total of 15 Bethel turnovers to help seal the victory.
Kalbfell finished with a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds and scoring 22 points. Olson put in 13 points, shooting 4 of 7 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Zillmer added 12 points.
The win brings the Wildcats’ record to 8-11 overall, 7-9 in the MIAC.
St. Kate’s aims to gain another MIAC win when they host St. Thomas on Wednesday, February 3rd at Butler Center at 7:30 pm.
