Perennial powerhouse St. Thomas flexed their muscle against St. Kate's, sweeping their doubleheader with the Wildcats 13-0 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings. The losses drop the Wildcats to 10-8 in MIAC play, and they fall one spot out of the final playoff position with four conference games remaining.
After a scoreless first inning, UST had ten hits and scored eight runs in the second to break the game open. All told the Wildcats gave up 20 hits, and offensively were never able to mount a threat against the Tommies.
Game two was a much more closely contested game. After surrendering three runs in the first inning, St. Kate's settled in and over the next four innings the team's exchanged runs. Then in the top of the sixth St. Thomas loaded the bases and with one big swing of the bat put the game out of reach with a grand slam.
Andrea Boser went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the second game.
The Wildcats now find themselves in fifth place in the MIAC standings with a record of 10-8. Bethel (10-6) moves into the final playoff spot by virtue of their sweep over St. Olaf. The Wildcats return action on Friday when they travel to Concordia to take on the Cobbers in a pair of pivotal games for their playoff hopes.
