The St. Catherine soccer team tied visiting Gustavus 1-1 on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The tie brings St. Kate’s record to 4-5-3 overall, 1-4-2 in the M.I.A.C.
The score remained 0-0 until 31:47 when Junior Wildcat Kelsey Nistler stole the ball from a Gustavus defender and quickly shot it into the top left corner of the net to take the lead.
St. Kate’s played tough defense in the second half and appeared to be on their way to the win. But Gustavus slipped in a goal at 88:46 to force overtime.
The Wildcats had three shots in each of the two overtime periods, but none were able to find their way into the net, as they settled for the 1-1 tie.
Nistler lead the Wildcats with 9 shots, 6 of them on goal. Five other Wildcats had one shot each. Freshman goalie Bridget Berry faced 22 shots while recording 7 saves.
Next game for St. Kate’s is home against St. Benedict on Tuesday, October 13 at 4:00 P.M.
