ST. PAUL, MINN. – Sydney Busker (Detroit Lakes, Minn. / Detroit Lakes) and the St. Catherine University golf team already recorded historic numbers this past fall. This spring, the team has picked up right where they left off in October while Busker continued her impressive first year with the Wildcats. St. Kate’s took fourth at the Wash-U Invitational this past weekend thanks to Busker’s outstanding play during the tournament. For her performance, Busker has been named Wildcat Athlete of the Week.
Busker took the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) by storm in the fall season with an All-Conference performance at the MIAC Golf Championships in October. After the championship, Busker was ranked the No. 7 player in the region and No. 49 player in the country. Six months later, Busker proved why she received those rankings at the Wash-U Invitational. As an individual, Busker shot 77 on the first day and 81 on the second to finish tied for fifth in the tournament at +18. She was tied for the lead after the first day and was the top finisher for the Wildcats.
Busker’s score also helped St. Kate’s finish take fourth in a tournament that featured nine nationally ranked teams. The No. 15 ranked Wildcats finished ahead of four nationally ranked teams, including No. 13 Washington University-St. Louis. St. Kate’s shot 665 during the weekend to finish at +105 as a team.
The Wildcats will now enjoy two weeks off before traveling to Illinois for yet another tournament against nationally ranked foes. St. Kate's will play in the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling April 16-17 in one of their final three tournaments of the 2015-16 season. After their trip to Illinois, the Wildcats will play in two Minnesota based tournaments. The first will be the Bethel Royal Match April 23-24 and the Carleton Invite April 30 through May 1.
