In 2007 St. Kate’s softball team started the “Step Up To The Plate” program in order to raise funds for cancer research. St. Kate’s softball will again offer this amazing opportunity for the 2011 season. Our aim is to honor the memory of Sheila Brown, St. Kate’s Athletic Director who lost her struggle with cancer in 2005. St. Kate’s softball hopes to step up to the plate to help find a cure.
In two years the team has raised nearly $6,000. The team is challenging family, friends, and everyone else to join in pledging a dollar amount for each home run hit this season. The donations will be given to Gateway for Cancer Research. GCR is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Schaumburg, IL. They are dedicated to curing cancer through funding patient-centered clinical studies that deliver innovative treatment options to cancer patients. GCR is a charity where 99 cents of every dollar donated to GCR directly goes to fund cancer research. All donations made to GCR are 100% tax deductible.
Please join us by pledging to participate. Simply decide on a pledge amount, fill out the form below and cheer on the Wildcats. Coach Makowske and Coach Miller are once again extending a Coach’s Challenge. They are pledging $5 for every home run hit, and they invite others to join them with this challenge.
You can return the form to Head Coach Madge Makowske. At the end of the season (in early May) you will be able to see your total pledge donation . We will have a home run count update posted at the top of this pages so you can watch our numbers over the course of the season. Our team record is currently 34 home runs in a season. The Wildcats are hoping to make this an annual fundraiser to honor the legacy of Sheila Brown and to help find a cure for this horrible disease.
All donations are tax-deductible. 99 cents of every dollar donated funds cancer research programs.
