Swimming starts strong

Steffanie Jurusik
The St. Kate's swimming and diving team got off to a fast start on day one of the MIAC Championships. The Wildcats set three school records and every swimmer who competed turned in a season best time.

The Wildcats set school records in the 200 Free Relay, the 400 Medley Relay, and Steffanie Jurusik lowered her own school record in the 100 Backstroke leading off the Medley relay.

Bridget Perkins, Jurusik, Alli Witt, and Sarah Vrudny swam a 1:38.90 to place 6th in the 200 Free Relay. Their time was just over a second faster than the school record set at last year's MIAC Championships.

The same quartet placed fifth in the Medley relay. Their time of 4:01.78 was just enough to out-touch the previous record of 4:01.85, which was also set last season.  Jurusik's time on the backstroke, which as the lead leg can be counted for records, lowered her own school record to 59.99.

After the first round of 3-Meter diving Sarah Moody is in third place with 222.10 points.

After day one St. Kate's is in seventh place with 64 points, trailing sixth place Macalester by only seven points.

Action continues Friday and Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. Live video and results are available here.
