The St. Kate’s hockey team beat host St. Thomas 3-1 Friday night, giving the Wildcats a 1st place tie with Gustavus in the MIAC. The Wildcats record now stands at 15-4-1 on the season, 10-4-1 in the MIAC.
Ashley Grell put St. Kate’s up 1-0, knocking in a loose puck in front of the net at 17:42 in the first period. Jessica Feltes and Aryn Ball picked up the assist on Grell’s goal. At 6:31 in the second period, Michaela Michaelson put in a power play shot from Megan Lange to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage going into the third period.
Cassie Rooney scored an unassisted goal midway through the third period, putting St. Kate’s up 3-0 before the Tommie’s added a goal of their own.The Wildcats’ defense remained strong the rest of the period, as they were able to take the 3-1 road victory.
Goaltender Mel Gerten stopped 25 of 26 shots on the night and St. Kate’s held a slight edge in shots, 27-26.
The Wildcats play St. Thomas again Saturday, February 20, playing host at 7:30 pm at Ridder Arena.
