McGehee 2 HR, 8 RBI

The St. Kate’s softball team swept Carleton College in today’s double-header, improving their record to 6-2 in the M.I.A.C. and 7-13 overall.  In game one the Wildcats used a quick offensive start to spark a 6-2 win.  St. Kate’s scored in the first three innings in game two to pick up their second win on the afternoon, 9-1.

Senior catcher Jessi McGehee led the Wildcats in game one, going 2-of-3 with two home runs and 5 RBIs. Senior Teresa Meiners chipped in offensively, going 2-of-3 with 1 RBI.  Defensively, sophomore pitcher Kayla Bergerson recorded her third win of the season, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits in 7.0 complete innings.

In the bottom of the first inning, after Andrea Boser and Lisa Jacobs both singled to get on base, Jessi McGehee hit a home run to put the Wildcats up 3-0.  Later in the fourth inning, Kaitlyn Frank scored off of a double by Teresa Meiners to put the Wildcats up by two, 4-2.  St. Kate’s finished their scoring in the fifth inning when McGehee hit a two-run home run, her second of the game, to seal the 6-2 victory.

The Wildcats continued to show their offensive power in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning, one run in the second, and five runs in the third on their way to the 9-1 five inning win.

McGehee and Frank each recorded 3 RBIs, while Boser had 2 and Jessica Kniefel had 1.  Boser and Jacobs each went 2-of-3 at the plate and scored twice. Kniefel, Boser, and Schmitz had stolen bases for the Wildcats. Pitcher Tianna Allen (4-6) completed the 5 inning game, limiting the Knights to 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 11.

Given the flooding in Moorhead, the Wildcats next scheduled game at Concordia on Wednesday, April 8th will likely have to be rescheduled or moved. Check back at www.stakatesathletics.com for updates. The team's game versus Bethel is now rescheduled for April 13th at 4pm. The next St. Kate’s home softball game is on April 18th when they host St. Mary’s at 1:00 p.m.
