The St. Kate's softball team defeated St. Olaf 8-0 and 4-2 to improve to improve to 8-4 in MIAC play.
In game one the Wildcats offense put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning and that was all the run support that
Kayla Bergerson would need. Bergerson (4-7) pitched a complete game shutout, giving up only for hits in six innings of work.
While Bergerson was shutting down the Oles, the Wildcats offense continued to put runs on the board. St. Kate's hit .385 in game one scoring three in the first, two in the third and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Jessi McGehee was 2-for-2 with a walk in the game. She also had two rbis, scored three runs and recorded her fourth home run of the season.
Kaitlyn Frank went 2-for-3 in game one with three rbis. Including a two-run double in the first to open up the Wildcats scoring.
Game two was a muc more closely contested battle. Neither team scored any runs in the first three innings. Finally, in the fourth the Wildcats took advantage of a couple of Ole miscues to put two runs on the board. However, St. Olaf came back and capitalized on some Wildcat errors to score one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the score at two.
In the top of the sixth
Ann Schmitz picked up the game winning hit. Schmitz two run single drove in
Jenna Clark and Frank, and secured the 4-2 win for St. Kate's.
Tianna Allen (5-8) picked up the win. She gave up only one earned run and four hits in seven innings of work. She struck out five to raise her season total to 72 strikeouts in 83 innings of work.
Frank went 2-for-4 in the second game to finish 4-for-7 with four rbis on the day.
Next up St. Kate's travels to Macalester on Thursday April 16 to face the Scots starting at 4 pm.
